A Volcano, 1790, from An History of the Earth and Animated Nature by O.Goldsmith. Uncoloured engraving 5.5”x3.5”, in 10”x9”frame. Glass can be removed for posting. Nearly identical copy of above figure. Slight overall browning with age. In good condition.

Gibbosité Centrale de L’Etna, 1836. (Gibbosité is no longer used but translates as prominence, protruberence, protrusion, extrusion, bump). View from ESE. Folded engraving of very high quality, 33x47cm (13”x18.5”) and below it a line drawing with feature names. Slight browning at edges. In good condition. Together with more distant views from SE and south, equally good engravings but with spotting on the image area, and articles Sur la structure et sur l’origine du Mont Etna, pp175-216 and 575-630 of Annales des Mines. Map missing from otherwise complete article.

Specialia vom Vulkan-Gurtel des Atlantischen Ocean’s, 1850 (loosely translates as details of the volcanic circle or girdle of the Atlantic) several inset maps and illustrations of volcanoes in the Atlantic Ocean – Iceland, Antilles, Cape Verdes, Azores, Canary – and Mediterranean Sea – Sicily, Aeolian Islands and Naples. Various scales. Maps are hand coloured.Flat with centre-fold, Slight age browning at edges. In very good condition. Also listed in World/ocean maps.

Vermischtes zur Geologie [Miscellaneous (volcanic) Geology], 1850. The main map is the high Andean Quito Plateau of Ecuador showing the volcano complexes of Pichincha and Antisana. It is surrounded by insets of the Pyrenees with cross-section a coral atoll (over subsided volcano), the volcano Gedee in Java, the Himalayas and a diagram of the comparative heights of the highest mountains. Quite a pastiche! Engraving with limited areas of hand colouring, 36x46cm. Flat with centre-fold, Slight age browning at edges. Clear plate impression. In very good condition. Also listed in World/ocean maps.
