Together with 3 folded plates, showing a) views of Vesuvius; b) detailed sections across one lava flow; c) general sections through parts of Vesuvius. All B/W engraving except last which has lovely hand coloured regional inset map 9.5x11cm. Together with accompanying descriptive articles (in French) from Annales des Mines, 3^rd series, volume 11, pp369-434,1837.

Ischia, Island of, topographic map – no title, no date, no reference number – 56x94cm (23"x37") with notes and boundary lines in pencil and red ink by Dr.Fuchs, 1873, who has mapped the island into 8 geological units. The base map appears to be pre 1860 and the unification of Italy as its location is related to the Royal Observatory of Naples. The map is cut and mounted on linen and folded. The folds are very worn so much that the map is in two parts. Therefore it is poor condition but restorable. The depiction of relief by hachuring is exceptionally fine.
